Retina

The retina is the sensory membrane that lines the inner surface of the back of the eyeball.

It is composed of several layers, contains specialized cells which make vision possible.

Each layer contains different types of cells & connections.

The light propagates through the cornea to the retina and penetrates until it reaches the deepest layer, Retinal Pigment Epithelium.

Light stimulates some chemical changes that generate electrical impulses which in turn travels through the optic nerve to the brain.


Optical Coherence
Tomography (OCT)

In ophthalmology, OCT processes high-resolution cross-sectional images of the retina, anterior chamber and cornea.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an optical analogue of ultrasound imaging that uses low coherence interferometry to produce cross-sectional images of the retina.

OCT provides both, quantitative and qualitative representation of the retina. OCT is used in various medical & non-medical applications. The imaging method is non-invasive, non-contact & completely painless.

OCT images are available in 2D & 3D. Doctors use them in the diagnosis of various ocular diseases.
